Podcasts, Conventions, Comics and more!

Hi all!

This is our first post of the year, yay!

We've been radio silent for a while now but that's because we're busy cooking up new comics.

Hopefully soon we'll revamp our website but for now, this space and FB is all we have.

Most recently, Rob and I were on The Fanbase Weekly podcast chatting about Black Panther, SpaceX rocket and our favorite trailers. Check us out in Episode 54.

Today we attended our first con of the year, Long Beach Comic Expo. It was great bumping into old friends and meeting new ones. We even picked up some awesome books too.

That's it for now but we'll roaming the aisles in WonderCon in March. If you see us walking around, wave us over to say hi.

We're going to SDCC!

San Diego Comic Con 2015, here we come!

We'll be walking around Saturday and Sunday, trying to meet with as many people as possible. We know a few friends from social media that we're really excited to see. We'll be stopping by various publishers & indie creators and as expected, the exhibit hall will be difficult to get around so hopefully we don't miss anybody. It'll be a crazy weekend but we'll be prepared.

Here's my list of what to bring...a survival kit if you will:
  • Hand Sanitizer - to prevent Con Crud
  • Breath Mints - to prevent the offensive stench from whatever you ate last
  • Cough Drops - so you don't lose your voice by Sunday
  • Extra phone battery - cause your phone will die on you
  • Snacks and water - like turkey jerky, those almond butter snacks & trail mix
  • Business cards - for a little networking
  • Sharpies - for a little book signing
  • Cash - obv.
  • Wear comfy shoes
  • Wear glasses (this is strictly a "me" thing as I don't always wear my glasses and I'm squinting the whole time)
Oh and have fun :)

It's Kickstarter time for... Cash & Carrie!

Cash & Carrie is a series that I've been working on since last year. It's about two junior high school friends, Dallas Cash and Inez Carrie, who solve mysteries in their small town. In the first issue, they investigate the strange disappearance of a school mascot, Misty the Goat. With the help of a few clues and a few friends, they narrow down their search to three possible suspects: the school principal, a rival football team and a fraternity brother. Or did Misty magically vanish into thin air?

The mover, the shaker, the editor Shawn Pryor got in contact with me and kickass artist Penny to do this all ages comic. All three of us collaborated on it and we could not be more proud.

The Kickstarter is currently under way until June 10th. There are reward tiers for variant covers, two Ginger Rabbit Studio digital comics: Golden Age and Clown Fight and later, a pdf copy of my script (scary I know 0_0). The best thing about this is that the story/art/design is almost completed, the only wait is for the printers.

This is an exciting time so get on it!

Sherman Oaks Expo - August 17th

A few weeks ago, we attended the first ever Sherman Oaks Expo. It was hosted by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and presented by DJ's Universal Comics!

It was a one day show where local indie creators got the chance to sell their comics, talk to fans and meet new readers from the area. Like our friends Jared Sams and the Penguin Vs Possums team, we were excited to table at this event and hope to see more in the future.

Paranormal Romance story

I have a short story in Grayhaven's anthology series, The Gathering: Paranormal Romance.
"State of Mind" is about two angels who can never be together (kinda like Wings Of Desire). Simona Binni illustrated it and Marcello Iozzoli did the gray tones.

Years ago, I had a Myspace (didn't we all?) And I put together collages of things that interested me like photography and movies. I pasted together these images of subways...and the black & white photo of an angel talking to a man in a trench coat caught my eye. It appears they are standing at a stairway to heaven, talking about their complicated relationship. At least that's what it looks like to me.

So that small inspiration stayed with me for a long time (approx seven years).

When I finally got a chance to write it, I sent Simona other photo references to get the setting just right. The final result was right on the money.

You can see a preview of it on my personal tumblr page, GiulieTruly.

1 Night on Earth Anthology - Printed

I finally received the micro-anthology in the mail and it looks amazing! The cover artist, Giovanna Terrone did an excellent job. Kudos to Christopher Kosek for designing it too!

A shout out to RA Comics Direct for printing a quality comic with super fast turnaround.

This will be available to purchase at the upcoming conventions, Comikaze and LBCC. Soon I'll update our online store where you can buy it directly from us (shipped within the US only).

One Night On Earth - on Tumblr

I'm in the process of putting together a micro anthology of sorts. I've written five short stories; each of them taking place in a different city (Sydney, Miami, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and San Salvador). What I've been trying to do is recruit women artists to collaborate on these shorts. Now, before you say it's a gimmick, these artists are amazing. I wanted to work with them. And I'm lucky that they said 'yes'. It's no easy feat either; juggling all the deadlines, keeping track on who's working on what and having an ultra tight budget--what was I thinking?!? But so far it's been a positive learning experience for me. I'm building a network of comrades =)

I don't know how Ranae de Liz & Company did it with Womanthology. That's one massive book. And what's great about it, it's still going. It's taking on new themes; profiling new & emerging talent.  Not to mention, recently Gail Simone recruited a slew of female artists and writers for the new Red Sonja series. Bravo I say!

Am I able to pull this little project off? We shall see. For now I have a tumblr going (free and open to the masses) but hopefully later in the year I'll do a small print run and sell them cheap at conventions. I won't be making money off of it (with printing, travel & convention costs). But the point of all this is to put work out there, show what I can do and what these kick-ass ladies have done.

Long Beach Comic Expo 2013

The third annual Long Beach Comic Expo was this past Saturday. We've gone all three years, but this was only our second time tabling. It's one of our favorite shows and it's mostly because it is such an easy convention for us to do. It's only one day, it's smaller and more manageable then larger shows, it still has a great line-up of creators, and best of all, we get to go back home at the end of the day! Hey, the little things add up ;-) So here are some photos from a fun day in Long Beach.

Also, just a reminder, if you live in Los Angeles but couldn't make it to Long Beach, you'll have another chance to catch us next Saturday (May 18th) when we'll be signing at Collector's Paradise in Pasadena from 12-3. Hope to see you there!

Just finished setting up.

Still early.

Tables set up outside the main show room.

The crowd picked up after lunchtime.

ECCC '13 Recap

E-C-C-C!!! We got back from Emerald City in Seattle (stayed a few extra days to enjoy the city) and it was probably the funnest show we've done yet. It was our first time at the convention and by all accounts this year's show was twice as big as previous years. Pretty much all the big name publishers and creators were were there; it was pretty spectacular if I do say so myself. Though while that might have been great for con attendees, unfortunately that meant business was a little slow for a lot of the small press/artist alley creators. A lot to see, a lot to do, just not a lot of people buying indie comics. That aside, it's a show I will still whole-heartedly recommend to anyone even thinking of going. We met a ton of great people and hopefully, someday, we'll be able to go back.

Until the next con...

Things that make you go, hmmm.

We're going APE!

This weekend the Ginger crew will be headed to San Fran to setup for A.P.E. We're excited to return to a great city and great expo. We heard there's an exhibitor mixer on Friday and we'll try our damnest to make it. But otherwise, hopefully we'll see some old and new faces come by our table. We're at Booth 915 on the right hand side of the exhibit hall. Free high fives for all!

Unboxing Bound Volumes!

Just received a package with a few new bound volumes courtesy of Single Bound Studios and thought I'd do a little unboxing showcase.  It's always fun receiving new books and after actively binding for a couple years now, it's practically tradition every 2-3 months.  In this order, I had done a two volume set of the '70s Ms. Marvel series and my own personal omnibus of Jack Kirby perfection (a la The Eternals)!  Now I just need to make some room on the shelves.

The shipment has arrived!

The contents are extremely well packed.

Three volumes for this order.
